Special Scout Troop #364

Special Scout Troop 364/593 has been in existence for 30 years. This troop consists of 10 mentally and physically handicapped "Adult" Boy Scouts. It is designed for young men with special needs. Their disabilities vary. Some from down syndrome, neurologically impaired problems and physical disabilities. They range from 20 years old to 50 years old.

Leo Daudelin is the scout Master and has been scouting for more than 27 years. Richard Gagnon is the Assistant Scout Master and has been with the Troop for 12 years.

Our goal is to give these scouts fun learning experiences in camping activities, field trips, community service, and weekly meetings. On camping trips the boys work towards merit badges for hiking, cooking (indoors & out), first aide, etc. These Scouts have interaction with their peers to help develop teamwork and daily living skills. They are taught to respect one another and help each other when needed. Working together helps them to overcome unusual obstacles in the outdoor environment.

The Troop is sponsored by the Belleville Elks. The meetings are held at the Elks Hall every Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.

The members of Troop 364 had a big dream, to go to Disney World, together as a troop. In August 2007, Perfect Pitch fulfilled that dream. All of the members of Special Scout Troop 364 and their chaperones (one to one ratio) spent a week in Florida at the Grand Floridian Hotel in Disney World.

All expenses for the trip were covered by the organization, including car service to and from the airport, trip insurance, airfare, food, lodging, spending money, back packs, and a color coordinated outfit for everyday.

The trip was a huge success and the boys had a great time. We hope to take the troop to Disney World one last time in January, 2012.

This Troop is important to the special individuals who participate in it. It gives each one of these young men an opportunity to enjoy a fulfilling social life filled with challenging adventures.

Rebecca

Rebecca is 16 years old. She has Spina Bifida a developmental disorder where the spinal column does not form properly. In Rebecca’s case, the condition has caused paralysis from the waist down.

Perfect Pitch HRD Inc. started working with Rebecca several years ago with the purchase of a special wheel chair made out of titanium. Because Rebecca is wheel chair bound, she needs her wheel chair for mobility. Her new chair has enabled her to participate in sports and to be more independent. She participates in wheel chair ballet, Challenger Basketball, and Challenger Bowling. She enjoys acting and has recently participated in the school play. She is also taking piano lessons.

Perfect Pitch sponsors Rebecca providing her with school clothes, cell phone, cell service/text messaging, social activities, and a strong support system. Perfect Pitch plans on sponsoring Rebecca indefinitely.

When Rebecca turned 16, Perfect Pitch HRD Inc. sponsored and organized a SUPER SWEET 16 birthday party for her. All of Rebecca’s friends and family were invited. The party was held at Attilio’s Tavern in Dover, NJ. On her very special day, Perfect Pitch supplied her with a “complete day of beauty” (hair, nails, make-up, and a new dress), a chauffeur driven decorated party bus for 30 people, a new digital camera, a new cell phone, an extreme Jonas Brothers Birthday Cake, 100 specialty cupcakes and cookies, and numerous gift-cards. All of those expenses and decorations were paid for by Perfect Pitch HRD Inc. through many generous donations to the organization. We also provided Rebecca with a professional vphotographer and videographer for provide her with photos and a video of her special day. There were also a few other notable donors (Attilio’s Tavern and Grey Sky Films) which help made this party possible. Rebecca had a great time at her SUPER SWEET 16!!!

Rebecca is planning on going to college and would like to become a teacher for special needs students.
